Research Assistant II - CuSTOM Program

Primary location: Burnet Campus. Full-time, day shift, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a resource to the department in specific area(s); demonstrate competence in specific knowledge, skills, and behaviors.
• Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills.
• Stay abreast of changes in key systems.
• Perform experiments and record data: follow research protocol, maintain accurate and detailed records, analyze data, and perform statistical and graphical analysis.
• Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel.
• Reproduce and evaluate techniques and results for accuracy.
• Apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques.
• Assist in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
• Maintain strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders; respond to requests quickly and effectively.
• Identify and understand customer needs and expectations and meet them.
• Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Maintain cell cultures.
• Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment appropriately.
• Respond to obviously erroneous results or problems with equipment.
• Assist in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.
• Provide appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
• May require an Associate degree, vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent

Pay

Expected starting pay range: $20.57 - $25.72 per hour. Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on-call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply.
