Research and Teaching Associate

Part-time position (30 hours/week) starting October 01, 2026, for a duration of 6 years at the Institute for Digital Ecosystems.

About the role

This position offers the opportunity to conduct research and gain teaching experience, opening doors to a career in academia or business. You will be part of a newly forming, interdisciplinary, and ambitious team with a focus on machine learning-based information systems, big data analytics, sociotechnical criteria of AI, and data quality. Responsibilities

• Collaborate on ongoing research topics and projects, as well as develop new research initiatives in areas such as machine learning-based information systems, big data analytics, sociotechnical criteria of AI, and data quality.
• Plan, create, and teach courses, including advising students, co-supervising theses and exams, and providing feedback.
• Dedicate a third of your working hours to writing a dissertation on your research topic.
• Provide organizational and administrative support, particularly related to the setup of the team and research/teaching activities.
• Participate in leading international conferences (e.g., ICIS, ECIS) and build a personal network for future career opportunities.

Requirements

• Completed diploma/master’s degree in Information Systems / Business Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a comparable field, qualifying you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU. A strong academic record is advantageous.
• Knowledge of or a deep interest in learning about machine learning-based information systems, big data analytics, sociotechnical criteria of AI, and data quality.
• Excellent spoken and written English skills. Strong German language skills are a substantial advantage.
• High motivation for research and teaching, with ambition to produce strong results. Teamwork, reliability, curiosity, thoroughness, and initiative are essential.
• Interest in programming and (initial) experience in conducting data analysis with code. Skills in Python and foundational libraries (e.g., pandas, sklearn, numpy) are advantageous.
• Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods.

• Prior experience in research and teaching, especially in related areas.

Pay

The minimum monthly gross salary is €2,832.08 (paid 14 times per year). This may be adjusted based on prior work experience. Additional attractive social benefits are offered.
