About the role

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. We are one of the largest departments in Maryland with nearly 12,000 employees and a budget of more than $1 billion. In order to fulfill our mission of promoting safety, we have increased security at our institutions while leading the way in innovative restorative justice projects that will help offenders reintegrate into society upon release.

Position duties

  • Instructs Legislative Mandated training for members of Administrative Charging Committee and Police Trial Board Civilian members
  • Affords assistance to other units in presenting program materials
  • Affords assistance to unit members with field training and train-the-trainer programs
  • Evaluates training courses to determine their value before material is presented
  • Designs and implements assigned associated programmatic projects
  • Conducts on-going research to update training materials/lesson plans/power point presentations for assigned classes
  • Arranges/coordinates the training locations within assigned areas

Minimum qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Five (5) years of experience in the law enforcement profession to include two (2) years of experience as a Police Trainer/Instructor, developing and delivering training

Selective qualifications

  • Valid MPCTC Academic Instructor Certification (COMAR 12.04.04 or 12.10.06), or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire

Desired or preferred qualifications

  • Available to provide in-person training within various locations throughout Maryland on a continuous basis
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Effective and respectful communication with diverse populations
  • Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other language is a plus
