About the role
A Meteorologist Reporter (Weekend) will report, shoot, write, and edit weather and news reports across multiple platforms, producing and presenting content that meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
Responsibilities
- Produce and present weather and news reports for all platforms.
- Write and deliver weather and news stories clearly and concisely.
- Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and other content.
- Respond to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations.
- Work closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
- Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances.
- Write web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis.
- Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
- Report three days a week as a Multimedia Video Journalist (MMVJ), including shooting and editing stories from beginning to end.
- Post content on the web and social media.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Entry-level to 2 years’ experience in weather presentation and reporting preferred.
- Ability to shoot video and perform non-linear editing.
- Ability to write a story from beginning to end.
- Knowledge of ENPS is helpful.
- Proficiency with Barron’s Radar is helpful.
- Strong understanding of the field of Meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
