About the role

The immediate vacancy is with the Department of Accounting & General Services in Kona, Hawaii Island.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and coordinate requests for the repair and maintenance of schools and other public buildings.
  • Conduct informal bid purchasing for supplies, materials and services required in repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain pertinent operating and fiscal data.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization To Work Requirement: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: Graduation from high school.
  • General Experience: Two (2) years of general work experience which required the keeping of written records.
  • Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in one or a combination of the following areas:
    • Scheduling building construction or maintenance work which included such duties as receiving requests for construction or maintenance; recommending or determining priorities; scheduling jobs; making estimates of time, manpower and materials required for jobs; following up on status of various jobs; preparing status reports; and performing other duties related to the scheduling of building construction or maintenance work.
    • Purchasing building construction or maintenance materials or services which included such duties as studying market conditions and prices; selecting sources of supply; preparing purchase orders, bid proposals, contracts or similar instruments; analyzing cost price proposals; and performing other duties related to the purchasing of building construction or maintenance materials or services.
    • Selling building construction or maintenance materials or services which included such duties as preparing bids, calling on customers, displaying and demonstrating merchandise; estimating or quoting prices; preparing forms and sales contracts; preparing reports of transactions; and performing other duties related to the sales of building construction or maintenance materials or services.
    • Estimating labor and material costs of construction or maintenance materials or services which included such duties as examining specifications; compiling itemized materials and price lists; computing cost estimates of materials and labor; and performing other duties related to estimating construction or maintenance costs.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory Aptitude: Possession of supervisory aptitude demonstrated through regular assignments involving some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; details to supervisory positions; completion of work assignments; or favorable appraisals of a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
  • Driver's License: Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

  • Temporary Disability Insurance: Qualified employees may be eligible to receive benefits for a disability caused by a non-work related injury or illness under this program.
  • Social Security: As an employer, the State also contributes to an employee's social security account.

Pay

$4,742 to $6,003 per month (SR-18, Step C to I)

Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
