About the role
The Rental Diesel Technician position at Wagner Equipment Co. involves performing incidental repairs, removing and replacing repairable sub-assemblies, evaluating damage to determine reusability in rebuild, troubleshooting equipment, and conducting high-level diagnostic assessments. Depending on education and experience, the Shop Mechanic may also perform various tasks including servicing, rebuilding, and maintaining equipment.
Responsibilities
- Learns and understands how to use the work order system.
- Completes all documents and parts orders associated with repairs in an accurate and timely manner.
- Identifies parts for return and ensures they are returned promptly.
- Works effectively with others in the shop and accepts technical advice from more experienced colleagues.
- Communicates with Shop Leads, Coordinators, and Managers about problems, repair nature, and repair statuses.
- Maintains safety practices and keeps the work area clean.
- Ensures equipment operates safely and complies with manufacturer specifications.
- Inspects and inspects returned rental equipment for customer damage and reports findings to supervisors.
- Performs basic troubleshooting and diagnostics under supervision.
- Assists in rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining equipment and components.
- Attends necessary training sessions.
- Assumes yard duties such as loading/unloading equipment and cleaning returned rental equipment using a pressure washer.
- Works overtime as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Technical school graduation with emphasis on diesel engines preferred.
- Heavy equipment, engine, or mechanic repair experience.
- At least 1 year of administrative or clerical experience.
- At least 1 year of customer service experience.
Qualifications
- Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands, hearing, ascending/descending ladders/stairs, heavy lifting/moving objects up to 100 pounds, data entry, telephone, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication, and math skills.
- Safety and product knowledge, understanding of diagrams and schematics, intermediate diagnostic aptitude, basic Microsoft Word, Wynne, and ET/SIS/SIS Web/STW skills, basic Windows/Internet knowledge.
- Works with moving, mechanical parts; may work in high places and be exposed to equipment vibration and fumes.

$22.00 - $30.00 per hour, pay dependent on education and experience.
