Major Responsibilities

  • Repair and install fences, sidewalks and playground equipment.
  • Mix and spread cement and concrete.
  • Apply “cold patch” or cold asphalt to fix potholes.
  • Install and repair Belgian and Hex block.
  • Fill post holes with concrete and cement.
  • Install steel posts.
  • Move, lift and carry heavy objects related to the work site.
  • Excavate.
  • Assist in guardrail repair.
  • Use a jackhammer and compressor.
  • Lay asphalt.

Qualification Requirements

  • This vacancy is only open to current permanent Year-Round Associate Park Service Workers or those on leave from the title.
  • Selection is based on seniority and ability to perform Heavy Duty tasks.
  • Appointees to this position will receive a prorated Heavy Duty Differential, in addition to base APSW salary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A four-year high school diploma or its education equivalent and 6 months of full-time satisfactory paid experience in gardening, grounds or tree maintenance, or in the building, construction or maintenance trades;
  • One year of full-time experience in gardening, grounds or tree maintenance, or in the building, construction or maintenance trades;

Licenses Required

  • Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willing to work in inclement weather and able to perform intense and physically demanding work.

  • New York City residency within 90 days of hire required for all other candidates.

Pay Range

$52,796.00 – $75,315.00
