About the role

We are seeking screened volunteer Virtual Mentors to provide structured encouragement, reflection, and resource navigation for underserved youth and young people. This role involves meeting virtually with participants on agreed schedules, helping them set goals, identify next steps, reflect on progress, and share appropriate experiences and resources.

Responsibilities

• Complete screening, orientation, youth-safeguarding, and role-specific training
• Meet virtually with an assigned participant or small group on an agreed schedule
• Help participants set goals, identify next steps, reflect on progress, and prepare questions
• Share appropriate experience and resources without promising outcomes or providing professional advice outside your qualifications
• Use approved communication platforms and maintain clear boundaries
• Document participation as required and protect confidential information
• Escalate safety, wellbeing, boundary, or technical concerns immediately
• Coordinate with the Mentorship Coordinator and follow program guidance

Qualifications

• At least 21 years old with reliable communication and follow-through
• Patient, encouraging, culturally responsive, and committed to youth safety
• Willingness to complete a background check and required training
• Mentoring, coaching, education, counseling, workforce, college-access, or youth-development experience is helpful
• Comfortable supporting goals without directing personal, legal, medical, or financial decisions
