Remote Software Engineer

About the Role

We are hiring a Software Engineer for a short-term contract position based in Newport News, VA. This is a mostly remote role with an expectation to come onsite 1-2 times per month. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of Newport News.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software.
• Set operational specifications and formulate and analyze software requirements.
• Design embedded systems software.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

Skills

• ASP.NET WebForms – Deep understanding of page lifecycle, server controls, view state, and event-driven programming.
• .NET Framework 4.7 – Proficiency in C# or VB.NET, understanding of the .NET ecosystem.
• SQL Server – T-SQL, stored procedures, database design, query optimization.
• ADO.NET – DataSet, DataReader, connection management.
• NestJS – TypeScript-based backend framework, dependency injection, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture.
• Angular – TypeScript-based frontend framework, components, services, reactive programming.
• TypeScript – Strong typing and modern JavaScript features.
• Node.js – Runtime environment and npm ecosystem.
• Web Technologies – HTML/CSS/JavaScript, client-side development, integration with server controls, AJAX, JSON/XML.
• Development Environment – Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, Git/TFS or similar version control.
• Database & Architecture – Database design (normalization, indexing, relationships), stored procedures, performance tuning (query optimization, connection pooling).
• Container Skills – Docker (containerization, image creation, orchestration), Kubernetes (container orchestration and deployment), CI/CD integration, unit testing (Jasmine, Karma for Angular).

Pay

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $85.00 per hour. Individual compensation will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent factors.
