(Remote) Senior Software Engineer

This is a remote role open to candidates anywhere in the U.S.

About the role

As a hands-on technical leader, you will design, construct, test, and debug technical solutions in a fast-paced healthcare technology environment. The role involves complex IBM i/RPG development, modernization, production troubleshooting, code quality, and mentoring. You will lead assigned technical efforts, guide less experienced developers, contribute to architecture and design discussions, and ensure solutions are maintainable, secure, supportable, and aligned with established MEDHOST engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, construct, test, and debug technical solutions in compliance with engineering standards.
• Provide effort estimates and accomplish tasks within defined schedules.
• Identify and recommend solutions for system and process deficiencies.
• Take full responsibility for implementing project parts, including new projects.
• Resolve high-complexity development issues.
• Assist in enforcing development deadlines and schedules.
• Facilitate task prioritization for junior staff.
• Perform other duties as required to support organizational needs.
• Use AI-assisted application development tools and techniques to support software development, analysis, troubleshooting, documentation, testing, and modernization efforts.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in a related computer or engineering field with 3 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience.
• 7+ years of commercial product development experience (consulting experience not considered).
• Proficiency in more than one of the following: RPG & CL, DB2 SQL, SQL Procedure and User Defined Functions.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and design principles (SOLID).
• Experience with agile software development in a geographically distributed environment.
• Past technical responsibility for shipping a software product.
• Comprehensive understanding of various testing types (unit, system, integration, performance).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others.
• Deep experience with RPGLE/RPG IV, CL, Db2 for i, SQL, IBM i application development, JSON, REST integrations, secure development, Agile delivery, and controlled change management.
• Experience with software version control is required.
• Knowledge of cross-platform development is recommended.
• Adoption of approved AI-enabled development tools to improve analysis, documentation, troubleshooting, development workflows, and engineering efficiency.

Knowledge of the MEDHOST PIF system is a plus. Candidates with PIF experience should be prepared to discuss their specific role, responsibilities, and technical experience with the system.

Candidates may be asked to deliver a short presentation on a technical topic of their choice as part of the interview process.

Pay

Salary range: $110,000 – $135,000.
