Remote OP Coder

About the role

Under indirect supervision, you will be responsible for accurate outpatient (SDS, ER, Ancillary, and OBSV) coding, procedures, diagnoses, and conditions using the appropriate documentation in the medical record. Classification systems include ICD-10-CM, CPT, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and other specialty systems as required by diagnostic category and facility reimbursement guidelines. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations, and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD-10-CM, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), individual state health planning and development, and organizational/institutional coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT coding principles, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing.
• When services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately, seek to attain proper documentation in a timely manner according to facility standards.
• Maintain a 95% overall accuracy rate.
• Maintain average productivity standards.
• Work the review queue on a daily basis to ensure all charts in the review queue are addressed and any corrections are communicated to the facility if necessary.
• Code or pending every chart placed in your queue.
• Maintain current professional credentials.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCS, CCS-P, or RHIT) or AAPC (CPC, COC, CPC-H).
• Proficient with Facilities Coding Standards.
• Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in medical coding.
• Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM.
• Remote workstation with dual monitors, standard Windows PC, high-speed internet access (DSL or cable), VPN compatibility, and printer/fax.
