Remote Inpatient Coder

Start date: 8/24/2026. Pay rate: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour.

About the role

Under indirect supervision, you will be responsible for accurate coding of Inpatient accounts for an Academic Level I Trauma facility. You will code Inpatient procedures, diagnoses, and conditions using appropriate documentation in the medical record. Work involves Cerner/Clin Trac and 3M 360 CAC, adhering to the rules, regulations, and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD-10-CM, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Individual State Health Planning and Development, and organizational/institutional coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign and sequence ICD-10 diagnostic and ICD-10 procedure codes to inpatient records for reimbursement and data collection.
• Ensure all accounts are coded correctly and promptly to provide an accurate MS-DRG or APR-DRG for appropriate reimbursement.
• Verify patient information to identify discrepancies and ensure codes and abstracted information apply to the correct patient encounter.
• Assess documentation and query physicians for additional information to clarify diagnoses, symptoms, or reasons for services.
• Work the review queue daily to address all charts, communicating corrections to the facility as needed.
• Maintain current professional credentials.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of Inpatient coding experience at a Trauma Level I facility.
• Trauma Level I, Teaching Facility, and Burn Center coding experience required.
• Experience coding Transplants, Rehab, Cardiovascular, and Pediatrics.
• Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, including coding Burns.
• Recent experience with Cerner/Clin Trac and 3M 360 CAC.
• Experience working with CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement).
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT).
• Proficient with Facilities Coding Standards.
• Computer savvy with the ability to work independently and follow workflow processes.
• Strong attention to detail and prompt email communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent Inpatient coding experience at a Level I Trauma facility with a total of 5 years of Trauma I experience.
• Experience abstracting charge sessions in Charge Router (Epic).
