About the Role

The Remote Housekeeping Supervisor directs the activities of staff providing industrial housekeeping services, oversees a variety of cleaning projects to maintain cleanliness, efficiency, and livability of commercial and industrial facilities, and may operate and direct a commissary facility in a remote camp setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties required of a housekeeper or other assigned employee.
  • Assign, supervise, and guide all unit housekeeping and janitorial staff.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules and assignments.
  • Approve staff payroll documents and payables.
  • Train new staff and provide ongoing training to existing staff.
  • Establish quality standards and work procedures; evaluate staff performance.
  • Assist staff in resolving work-related difficulties; provide recognition, counseling, and discipline.
  • Perform duties of assigned staff and cover unusual circumstances as needed.
  • Interview and/or hire housekeeping and janitorial staff.
  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines using proactive methods; support and guide staff in accordance with the safety program, policies, and practices.
  • Actively participate in the corporate safety program; conduct safety meetings and ensure daily operations comply with company and client safety requirements.
  • Identify, resolve, or report worksite safety hazards; responsible for HazCom implementation documentation.
  • Complete accounting, safety, administrative documentation, and record-keeping.
  • Manage supply orders, billings, and assigned inventories; conduct facility inspections to maintain service quality.
  • Coordinate equipment care and maintenance; manage unit scheduling and travel requests.
  • Resolve minor maintenance or client emergencies as they occur or take steps to address them permanently.
  • Handle commissary duties including cash, inventory control, deposits, ordering, and merchandising.
  • Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
  • Supervise staff and perform other duties pertinent to the department’s success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years verifiable management experience in housekeeping, janitorial, or service industry, demonstrating knowledge of cleaning processes, equipment, staff training, and corporate safety programs.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under the company’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Intermediate skills operating Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements, which may include drug test, physical and fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants not near a testing facility are responsible for travel expenses.
  • Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team with employees, customers, and clients.
  • Ability to make decisions with little to no supervision.
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours per shift as scheduled.
  • Must live in dormitory-style settings and meet remote camp cleanliness requirements.
  • Must speak, understand, read, and write English.
  • Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set by the company and client.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This role operates in a remote camp setting with the following conditions and requirements:

  • Environment: Indoor/Outdoor; frequently exposed to arctic conditions; moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Physical Demands: Constant standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, using hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or toxic/caustic chemicals.
  • Travel: Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.
  • Fit-for-Duty Test Requirements:
    • Lift 35 lbs. from floor to knuckle (2 repetitions).
    • Lift 35 lbs. from floor to waist (2 repetitions).
    • Lift 8 lbs. from floor to shoulders (2 repetitions).
    • Lift 8 lbs. from floor to crown level (2 repetitions).
    • Carry 25 lbs. with two hands for a minimum of 50 feet.
    • Perform alternate cross-over toe touches (5 each side, self-paced but continuous).
    • Functionally squat (5 repetitions, self-paced but continuous).
    • Kneel on one knee and stand; alternate knees (5 repetitions per knee, self-paced but continuous).
    • Climb up and down 10 steps (5 repetitions for a total of 50 steps; 30-second rest after each set of 25 steps).
    • Climb up and down 10 steps while carrying 25 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand for safety (5 repetitions for a total of 50 steps; 30-second rest after each set of 25 steps).
    • Climb a slanted ladder with 2 rungs (2 repetitions for a total of 4 rungs, self-paced but continuous).

Pre-Employment Testing for Candidates Outside Anchorage

For candidates residing in Alaska and the Lower 48:

  • Anchorage, AK, is considered the point of hire for pre-employment testing (except drug testing, conducted near the candidate’s residence).
  • Candidates are responsible for travel expenses and accommodations related to pre-employment tasks in Anchorage, including safety training, physicals, DOT medical cards, fit-for-duty assessments, audiograms, and other contract-required testing (e.g., NSTC, APICC training, security licensing).

For candidates residing in Alaska for the Alyeska Contract:

  • Pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s area of residence unless the region lacks necessary service providers.

All employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to Anchorage, AK, for scheduled trips to remote locations.
