All duties are performed in accordance with NMS’ mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair industrial appliances used in food service areas, laundries, and other general service areas.
- Interpret and complete preventative maintenance schedules as noted on computer-generated work orders.
- Troubleshoot and repair large tonnage cooling equipment used in controlled environments such as labs or computer and control areas.
- Maintain and repair stationary exercise and recreational equipment.
- Diagnose and repair pneumatic systems related to building climate controls.
- Service and repair heating and power boiler apparatus, including annual and semiannual tear down, testing, and cleaning.
- Lay out and install structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, and pipes.
- Cut, thread, and connect pipe to functional components and water or power systems on premises.
- Pump specified gas or fluid into systems and start systems, observing operation, reading gauges, and adjusting mechanisms to control fluid level, pressure, and temperature.
- Dismantle malfunctioning systems, test components, replace or adjust defective or worn parts, and repair systems.
- Insulate shells and cabinets of systems and install wiring to connect components to electric power sources.
- Attend daily safety toolbox meetings and perform job safety evaluations for each job.
- Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
- Perform other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success as assigned.
Requirements
- At least five (5) years’ experience working on commercial or industrial equipment, including but not limited to refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, kitchen, and laundry appliances.
- Universal refrigeration certification I, II, and III.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
- Must pass pre-employment contract requirements, which may include: hair follicle drug test, physical and fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants not located near a testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest facility.
- Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team with employees, customers, and clients.
- Ability to make decisions with little to no supervision.
- Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
- Ability to live in dormitory-style settings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.
- Must speak, understand, read, and write English.
- Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.
Candidates Residing Outside Fairbanks Area
- For pre-employment testing, Fairbanks, AK will be considered the point of hire (except for drug testing, conducted near the candidate’s residence). Candidates are responsible for travel expenses and accommodations related to pre-employment tasks in Fairbanks, including safety training and required testing (e.g., physical, DOT physical/medical card, fit-for-duty, audiogram, or other contract/company requirements).
- For Alyeska contracts, pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s area of residence in Alaska, unless the region lacks necessary service providers.
- All employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to Fairbanks, AK, for scheduled trips to remote locations.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Environment:
- Remote camp setting with frequent exposure to arctic conditions.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Constant standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
Travel:
- Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.
Physical Requirements (Fit for Duty Test):
- Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle (2 repetitions).
- Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist (2 repetitions).
- Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders (2 repetitions).
- Push horizontally with a peak force of 75 ft-lbs. using two hands.
- Perform alternate cross-over toe touches (10 each side, self-paced but continuous).
- Functionally squat (5 repetitions, self-paced but continuous).
- Kneel on one knee and stand, alternating knees (10 repetitions per knee, self-paced but continuous).
- Climb up and down 12 steps (5 repetitions, 60 steps total; 30-second rest after each 30 steps).
- Climb up and down 12 steps while carrying 40 lbs. in one hand (2 repetitions, 24 steps total; 30-second rest after each 12 steps).
- Climb a slanted ladder with 8 rungs (8 repetitions, 64 rungs total; 30-second rest after each 16 rungs).
- Shovel continuously for three (3) minutes using a standard snow shovel with a 3 lb. weight attached to the blade.
