About the role
Pet Emergency Treatment (PET AK), Alaska's leading 24/7/365 emergency and specialty hospital, seeks a Relief Veterinary Technician to join our ER team. Located between the rugged Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet, PET AK is an AAHA-accredited, high-volume facility serving the region.
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency nursing care in alignment with attending doctors' orders
- Perform triage of incoming patients, assessing urgency and stabilizing as needed
- Accurately calculate and administer medications
- Conduct in-house lab work, sampling, and analysis
- Place and manage IV catheters, monitor anesthesia, and oversee vital signs
- Manage patient comfort, monitor recovery, and communicate progress to clients
- Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture
Requirements
- A minimum of one year of veterinary technician experience; emergency experience is preferred but not strictly required
- Veterinary Technician credential (LVT) or licensure, highly preferred
- Adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to stay composed under pressure
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care, with a compassionate, energetic mindset and strong communication and teamwork skills
Qualifications
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of veterinary emergency protocols
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to work various shifts including day, overnight, and weekends
Skills
- Proficiency in administering medications and performing lab procedures
- Experience with IV catheter placement and monitoring
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor under pressure
