About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work relief in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. This role offers an exciting, fast-paced opportunity to utilize skills and expand knowledge under the mentorship of talented professionals.
Responsibilities
- Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients using anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
- Triage emergency cases as they arrive, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
- Perform digital radiography with proper technique, including patient positioning.
- Have a complete understanding of normal patient vital sign ranges, including heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
- Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs, and alert the veterinarian to any changes or issues.
- Identify patients at risk for cardiac arrest and initiate CPR.
- Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
- Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
- Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
- Mentor and train other co-workers.
- Show patience and empathy to address client concerns.
Qualifications
- Experience in emergency and critical care settings.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice veterinary technology in the state of practice.
- Proficiency in anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
- Knowledge of digital radiography techniques.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and catheter placement.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Passion for emergency and critical care medicine.
