About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work relief in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. This role offers an exciting, fast-paced opportunity to utilize skills and expand knowledge under the mentorship of talented professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients using anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography with proper technique, including patient positioning.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal patient vital sign ranges, including heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs, and alert the veterinarian to any changes or issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for cardiac arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Mentor and train other co-workers.
  • Show patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Qualifications

  • Experience in emergency and critical care settings.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice veterinary technology in the state of practice.
  • Proficiency in anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
  • Knowledge of digital radiography techniques.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and catheter placement.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Passion for emergency and critical care medicine.
