Relief Veterinary Technician

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with emergency and critical care cases
• Perform patient triage and ongoing patient assessments
• Collect blood, urine, and other diagnostic samples
• Place and maintain IV catheters
• Administer medications and IV fluids accurately
• Monitor anesthesia and assist with emergency procedures
• Perform venipuncture and laboratory testing
• Obtain diagnostic radiographs
• Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients
• Calculate medication dosages and fluid rates
• Accurately document treatments and patient care
• Educate and communicate with pet owners during stressful situations
• Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment
• Support CPR efforts and other emergency life-saving procedures
• Work collaboratively with doctors and teammates to provide exceptional patient care

Requirements

• Experience as a Veterinary Technician (emergency experience is a bonus!)
• Stay cool under pressure and can adapt quickly
• Love learning and growing your skills
• Be a supportive teammate who enjoys collaboration
• Care deeply about patient care and client experience
• Comfortable working day shifts, overnights, weekends, or holiday shifts as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current certification as a Veterinary Technician (preferred)
• Current license to practice as a Veterinary Technician in Michigan (preferred)

Skills

• Strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.)
