About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically recognized Principal Optoelectronic Device Reliability Engineer to lead reliability engineering and product qualification activities for our portfolio of III-V InP based laser diodes and photodetectors. This role is responsible for defining reliability strategies, driving qualification programs, and ensuring robust, long-term performance of products across diverse applications.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead reliability and qualification strategies for optoelectronic devices (including laser diodes and photodetectors) from development through production.
  • Generate and approve qualification plans in accordance with JEDEC, Telcordia, MIL-STD, GR-468, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Apply physics-of-failure principles to assess and mitigate reliability risks in III-V optoelectronic materials and devices.
  • Perform FMEA, FMECA, and failure-rate prediction activities throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Manage new product qualification programs as well as ongoing reliability monitoring of released products.
  • Perform and review advanced failure analysis (FA) using techniques such as SEM, FIB cross-sectioning, X-ray, IR imaging, EDS, and optical/electrical characterization.
  • Analyze degradation mechanisms specific to laser diodes (e.g., catastrophic optical damage, gradual aging, facet degradation) and photodetectors (e.g., dark current increase, responsivity loss, packaging-induced failures).
  • Perform advanced statistical analysis of life-test and qualification data; generate clear, data-driven technical reports and presentations.
  • Work closely with design engineering, product engineering, manufacturing, corporate quality, and FA teams to drive robust designs and corrective actions.
  • Stay current with evolving optoelectronic reliability standards, test methodologies, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of III-V InP based laser diode and photodetector reliability, including device physics, degradation mechanisms and test methodologies.
  • Excellent familiarity with JEDEC, GR-468, MIL-STD, Telcordia, and related qualification standards for optical and optoelectronic devices.
  • Solid knowledge of optoelectronic device fabrication, assembly, inspection and test processes.
  • Advanced experience with failure analysis techniques and tools applied to semiconductor and optoelectronic devices.
  • Prominent hands-on experience with environmental and accelerated stress testing, such as HTOL, burn-in, temperature cycling, damp heat, thermal/mechanical shock, vibration.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and data-interpretation skills.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and execution-focused, with a passion for technical excellence.

Salary Range

The Salary Range for this position is $98,000 – $200,000. Actual salary offered to candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates’ experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
