Reliability Engineer
About the role
The Reliability Engineer supports maintenance activities ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations in the Vandalia, Ohio plant. Key responsibilities include identifying and managing asset reliability risks, leading the mechanical integrity program, developing engineering solutions for repetitive failures, and analyzing maintenance demands.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains all utilities including boilers, generators, HVAC, vacuum pumps, compressors, DI-water banks, process critical equipment, and facility equipment in accordance with industry standards and facility needs.
- Responsible for like-for-like equipment replacements.
- Maintains critical spares and ensures they are onsite. Maintains a list of tank and business-critical components.
- Develops and ensures compliance with preventative maintenance programs and audits for continuous improvement.
- Conducts analysis of reliability problems using 5Y or fishbone diagrams.
- Develops best practices for analyzing repeat issues related to equipment.
- Supports Process Development in construction, engineering, and development projects.
- Identifies and manages asset reliability risks affecting plant operations.
- Leads the mechanical integrity program of PSM, aligning inspection and maintenance practices with RAGAGEP and improving asset lifecycle performance.
- Develops engineering solutions for repetitive failures and other problems affecting daily operations.
- Originates and develops methods to determine maintenance demands for equipment and processes.
- Analyzes KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, OEE) to identify performance gaps and recommends data-driven solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Utilizes SAP and operations management software to support maintenance planning, procurement, and workflow optimization.
- Assesses critical spare parts and supports inventory control by continuously improving spare parts management.
- Supports quality engineering with customer compliance and corrective actions.
- Supports maintenance group in addressing acute problems and responding to design inquiries, material selection, and corrosion resistance concerns.
- Coordinates all activity related to fire protection within their respective areas and during project-related work activities.
- Supports HPS (Heraeus Production System) and applicable lean objectives.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required. Ten years of site reliability engineering experience is preferred, with experience in a chemical manufacturing facility being a plus. Strong work ethic, demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines, self-starter with attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills, ability to analyze and interpret data, and sound technical skills, analytical ability, high integrity, and strong operational focus are essential.
