Purpose and Scope

The Reliability Engineer for the Kennedy Propellants and Life Support Services (KPLSS II) program acts as a lean maintenance Systems Maintenance Engineer (SME) and adds support to maintenance teams with the development of strategies that help create processes and programs able to sustain low operating costs and improve asset reliability at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC) FL. This position not only performs evaluations, but also trains teams to identify and eliminate waste, reduce operating and maintenance costs, and increase uptime.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains Reliability Programs and creates a model that can be utilized across the KPLSS II Contract.
  • Proactively identifies potential project problems or opportunities and analyzes the issues, using all appropriate resources, to develop the optimum approach to mitigating problems and/or exploiting opportunities.
  • Identifies opportunities, perform root cause analysis, and develop reliability standards associated with proprietary machine tools and testing equipment.
  • Generate and follow through to completion all Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for improved reliability of key assets and value streams.
  • Lead overall completion of Root Cause and Corrective Actions.
  • Support spare parts critical spares generation and share responsibility for ongoing spare parts management program that meets reliability targets.
  • Weekly lead continuous improvement activities and communicate wins and barriers to client and Amentum management teams.
  • Perform high level maintenance planning and management. Plan for shutdowns, turnarounds, and plant outages.
  • Develop predictive maintenance strategies and training tools.
  • Perform risk-based asset management and root cause analysis.
  • Lead reliability and operations excellence.
  • Support various special projects, asset management, troubleshooting, and metric and performance measurement development.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, or related scientific field and three years of job related experience.
  • Knowledgeable of best in class maintenance practices and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

  • Most positions involve work typical of office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
  • Some positions involve work in environments where mechanical equipment, is being installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, stretching, reaching, carrying. Constant use of vision and mental alertness, as well as ability to differentiate colors is required. Ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, stairs; extensive walking; repetitive 90 degree body and wrist movement.
