Release Assistance Officer
About the role
The Clackamas County Circuit Court is hiring a Release Assistance Officer. In this role, you will determine pretrial release options for defendants by applying Oregon Revised Statutes, Chief Justice Orders, Presiding Judge Orders, and using risk assessment tools.
Responsibilities
- Determine pretrial release options for defendants based on Oregon Revised Statutes, Chief Justice Orders, and Presiding Judge Orders.
- Research and prepare reports for judges on adults in custody who are ineligible for release.
- Compile criminal and FTA history using LEDS and OJD systems.
- Verify residence and employment.
- Determine current and past probation or parole status.
- Attend court proceedings to testify to recommendations for release and other matters.
- Identify and prepare files that need to be added on dockets.
- Correspond with other court staff.
- Complete financial affidavits to determine eligibility for court appointed counsel.
- Prepare, disperse, and collect affidavits of indigence for adults in custody set for arraignment.
- Research and apply information gathered from multiple sources.
- Maintain contact with people who are under pretrial conditional release.
- Ensure their appearance at court.
- Verify accuracies of court dates for court reminders.
- Perform clerical and computer work, including preparing new files, typing, filing, and reviewing court orders.
- Respond to questions from judges and court staff about pretrial release and court appointed counsel.
Requirements
The qualified candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social/human services, or a closely related field. OR Four (4) years of experience in criminal justice or a court environment. OR Any combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate must have Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification or have the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
Skills and Attributes
- Experience conducting interviews to obtain personal and/or financial information.
- Experience communicating effectively, orally and in writing, with people in emotionally charged and stressful situations.
- Experience communicating decisions regarding the approval or denial of benefits or services and the explanation of laws, rules, or regulations.
- Experience with a high volume of data entry using a personal computer to access and input information and complete various tasks.
- Experience working in a court system, criminal justice, corrections, or other legal environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.
- Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong customer service skills, experience with public speaking in a courtroom, experience with a case management system, experience with the Odyssey case management system, experience working within a correctional facility.
Benefits
To You We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage. The hourly equivalent for this position is $30.31 - $47.03, and the annual salary for this position is $63,050 - $97,822.10. Paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part-time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans. OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job. In this job profile, we offer candidates new to OJD up to the fourth step of the salary range, depending on experience. You are potentially eligible for a 5% annual increase.

The hourly equivalent for this position is $30.31 - $47.03, and the annual salary for this position is $63,050 - $97,822.10.
Schedule
This is a full-time position, and the Clackamas County Circuit Court’s main work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, Release Assistance Officers cover responsibilities from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The candidate selected for this position will have the option of working a four-day workweek that will be determined after the training period. Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.
