About the role
This position is posted until filled.
Responsibilities
- Inspects and tests relays and other substation equipment to ensure proper operation, utilizing such equipment as voltmeters, ammeters, phase angle meters, oscilloscopes and related electrical testing equipment
- Installs and maintains substation, transmission, and distribution Protection systems
- Trains and instructs less experienced personnel in techniques of relay maintenance and other duties by applying a full working knowledge of safe work procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual
- Available to perform on call work as necessary
- Serves as either dispatcher or switchman
- Properly creates "As Built" drawings for changes to protection systems
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with three to five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline
- College level course work in an engineering discipline or related vocational training preferred
- Prior Experience Working In Substation Equipment Test Preferred
- Must have and maintain a driving record that meets the Company's standards
- Applicant must be able to receive TWIC from the TSA to access Texas City substations in Port facilities
Competencies
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of electrical theory, transformer theory, math and drafting
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of safe and proper testing techniques
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of protection system construction and maintenance
- Ability to operate power tools and electrical testing equipment
- Ability to recognize and communicate hazardous conditions
