About the role

The Relationship Manager III services the needs of large and complex business portfolios, customizing a broad range of products and services to meet the financial needs of TD's customers. This role acquires, develops, and manages commercial banking relationships by providing tailored solutions across different commercial segments to build strategies that align with customer goals—both current and future. The position focuses on growing the portfolio through financial solutions and developing new business from existing and new customers.

As a trusted advisor, this role structures and packages practical, competitive solutions that demonstrate a deep understanding of customers' financing, cash management, and overall business needs, adding value to their portfolios. The position requires substantial expertise in a customer segment or product/service line and involves originating and monitoring larger loans with moderate to complex credit needs. It supports growing or complex regions, drives sales and delivery of solutions across business lines, and recommends best practices to improve products or services.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve growth goals (loans, deposits, fees) individually and as part of a team through new business development, cross-selling to existing customers, and leveraging an established network of resources.
  • Make sales calls, coordinate sales efforts, gather financial and business information, and perform financial analyses to support credit decisions.
  • Contribute to or provide recommendations for the loan decision process based on credit risk evaluation and other key factors from Credit Management.
  • Negotiate specific terms and conditions and communicate credit decisions to prospects and customers as directed by policy or credit approval.
  • Lead all aspects of relationship management for an assigned portfolio, segment, or geography.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and continuously improve the customer experience.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing creative products and solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Use sales platforms to build a robust understanding of customer and target needs, industries, and markets.
  • Understand the customer's operating environment and structure unique financing, cash management, and business solutions to add value.
  • Generate referrals to all business partners to meet the comprehensive financial needs of TD customers.
  • Develop and execute a clear retention plan for assigned portfolio deposits and loans within the specified territory.
  • Maintain and enhance expert knowledge of the market, customers, and broader economic factors.
  • Identify and respond to changes in the business environment, establishing action plans to address customer issues and priorities.
  • Identify customer or prospect referral opportunities to internal Bank partners that meet customer needs.
  • Develop community relationships and participate in civic and professional organizations, including networking events.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to attract, acquire, and retain customers, increasing profitability and enabling business growth.
  • Plan and execute business development activities, review and communicate results, and adjust tactics as needed.
  • Promote and offer the full suite of TD’s products, services, and banking capabilities.
  • Assess credit requests to determine risk and make appropriate recommendations for structuring credit deals.
  • Contribute to credit applications with high-quality risk assessment, credit structure, due diligence, and credit presentation.
  • Support business objectives for operational excellence and ensure timely, accurate completion of business processes.
  • Protect the interests of the organization by identifying and managing risks, escalating non-standard or high-risk transactions as necessary.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, reflects client and business intentions, and complies with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Identify, suggest, and participate in process improvement opportunities.
  • Actively manage relationships within and across business lines, corporate functions, and control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional or enterprise initiatives as a subject matter expert, providing guidance for complex situations.
  • Perform necessary due diligence to support the accuracy of all customer transactions and activities.
  • Stay abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements, assessing potential impacts.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, aligned with the organization’s risk appetite.
  • Participate fully as a team member, fostering a positive work environment that promotes service, quality, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Provide thought leadership and industry knowledge in your area of expertise and participate in knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Stay current on emerging trends and developments, growing your knowledge of the business, tools, and techniques.
  • Engage in personal performance management and development activities, including cross-training within the team.
  • Keep others informed about the status and progress of projects and relevant day-to-day activities.
  • Contribute to team development through mentorship, sharing knowledge, and leveraging best practices.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop relationships with internal and external business partners to foster productive working relationships.
  • Contribute to a fair, positive, and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for your business area and the bank, both internally and externally.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth understanding of the commercial industry, business development techniques, and credit decisions.
  • Proven business development track record with the ability to conceptualize and implement effective new business strategies.
  • Extensive network of outside referral sources for new business.
  • Excellent credit and financial analysis skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.

Pay

$124,280 - $186,160 USD per year. TD is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities. Base pay may vary based on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, geographic location, and other business and organizational needs.
