Reinsurance Director
About the role
We are seeking a strategic and technically strong Director, Reinsurance to lead accounting, reporting, and control activities for our reinsurance programs. This role is ideal for a collaborative leader who brings deep insurance accounting expertise, strong business partnership skills, and a passion for building scalable, well-controlled processes. You will work closely with Reinsurance, Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Legal, and Audit teams while helping shape a growing and evolving function.
Responsibilities
- Lead reinsurance accounting and financial reporting activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close
- Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, reporting packages, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Evaluate accounting treatment for complex and non-routine reinsurance arrangements
- Partner across Reinsurance, Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Legal, and Audit to support execution, reporting, and controls
- Drive process improvement, standardization, automation, and data transparency across the function
- Support regulatory filings, audits, and other external reporting requirements
- Lead, coach, and develop team members while promoting accountability and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Substantial progressive accounting experience, including insurance or reinsurance accounting
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting in an insurance environment
- Experience leading teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- CPA or similar professional designation preferred
