About the role

Protective is seeking a Reinsurance Accounting Analyst II to join our Reinsurance Accounting team. This role is responsible for supporting the accounting and reporting activities for multiple coinsurance and reinsurance partners while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial results. The position plays a key role in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. This is a hybrid role which reports to the office 3 times a week.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record monthly and quarterly accounting activity for assigned coinsurance and reinsurance agreements
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables, including settlement statements, reporting packages, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Analyze financial results and trends, investigate variances, and provide clear explanations and supporting documentation
  • Partner with accounting, actuarial, valuation, business systems, and reinsurance administration teams to resolve issues and improve reporting accuracy
  • Support the implementation of accounting processes for new acquisitions and reinsurance treaties
  • Serve as a primary contact for internal stakeholders, external reinsurance partners, and auditors
  • Support quarterly and annual audit activities by providing requested documentation and responding to inquiries
  • Assist with statutory reporting requirements, including Schedule S and related exhibits as assigned
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automate recurring processes using Excel, Power Query, Power Automate, SAP, and Microsoft Copilot
  • Maintain process documentation and job aids to support operational excellence and knowledge sharing
  • Cross-train with team members to enhance business continuity and support critical deliverables
  • Perform additional accounting and financial analysis responsibilities as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, insurance accounting, or a related field
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting deliverables
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Skills

  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting concepts
  • Ability to analyze large data sets, identify trends, and investigate complex variances
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrated interest in process automation, continuous improvement, and technology-driven solutions
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to interact with external business partners
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn complex insurance and reinsurance accounting concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the life insurance, annuity, reinsurance, or broader financial services industry
  • Familiarity with coinsurance and reinsurance treaty structures
  • Experience working with SAP, including general ledger and reporting functionality
  • Experience using Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI, and/or Microsoft Copilot
  • Knowledge of GAAP and Statutory accounting principles
  • Experience supporting Schedule S reporting and regulatory filings
  • Familiarity with reinsurance administration systems such as TAI or similar platforms
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification

Pay

Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience.
