Reinsurance Accountant II
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Professional to join our Reinsurance Accounting team. This role is responsible for performing treaty and accounting requirements for reinsurance activities, working with Financial Shared Services and other subject matter experts to learn and document the Company’s reinsurance activities, and ensuring adherence to treaty provisions and requirements.
Responsibilities
- Performs treaty and accounting requirements for reinsurance activities.
- Works with Financial Shared Services and other subject matter experts (both internal and external) to learn and document the Company’s reinsurance activities.
- Develops a centralized inventory of active reinsurance treaties and related provisions for timely and accurate adherence to treaty provisions.
- Documents how reinsurance activities are reflected in the Company’s accounting and reporting systems on both a US GAAP and Statutory basis from a process and control perspective.
- Administers existing reinsurance treaty agreements to ensure adherence to treaty provisions and requirements and facilitates periodic cash settlement.
- Collaborates with the Financial Reporting team to complete all monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting requirements including journal entries, performance of reinsurance-related activity, reinsurance accruals, and Schedule S filings.
- Assists with external and internal audit requests.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4 years of professional job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
- Understanding of accounting principles for U.S. GAAP.
- Focus on detail and meticulous documentation of transaction support for accruals, settlements, and other reinsurance deliverables.
- Intellectual curiosity to learn and understand the U.S. GAAP, statutory, and international accounting implications of the reinsurance program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel.
- Proficiency in process improvement techniques including diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and facilitation and negotiation skills.
- Aptitude for learning accounting and data analysis systems/applications.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Professionalism in accordance with corporate standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to effectively collaborate with team and management.
- Knowledge and experience with SAP preferred.

Pay
The salary range for this job is $65,000 - $85,000. This range is specific to the job and salary offers consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation.
Schedule
This role may be hybrid or remote depending on your location within the continental US. If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be hybrid, requiring you to work in the office for at least 60% of the work week and work from your home for the remaining portion. If you live more than 50 miles from these locations, this role will be remote, requiring you to work from your home within the continental US. Any requests to come to the office will be communicated with you in advance.
