About the role

The Rehabilitation Teacher III position at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) involves performing highly complex rehabilitation therapy work within a forensic and/or psychiatric setting. This role collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement programming tailored to patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Attends work regularly and may work specific shifts, including extended shifts and overtime, as per agency policy.
  • Develops and implements psychosocial and psychoeducation sessions to enhance skills for successful recovery and quality of life activities.
  • Conducts initial assessments and collaborates with patients to identify recovery goals and available support programs.
  • Attends and participates in person-centered recovery planning (PCRP) meetings to discuss treatment information and client recovery goals.
  • Documents patient engagement and progress in electronic medical records for communication with the recovery team.
  • Communicates with supervisors through various methods, including verbal reports, computers, meetings, and written reports.
  • Recognizes and responds to de-escalate patients in crisis situations, applying TIPS to ensure safety.
  • Plans outings and facilitates access to community activities to support patients' skill application.
  • Maintains a safe, clean work environment and actively monitors the environment to prevent unsafe situations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, social work, education, or a related field.
  • A minimum of six months experience in rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, social work, education, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in social and rehabilitative services or teaching/counseling persons with mental health challenges and varied disabilities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of rehabilitative processes and skills for people with diverse abilities and challenges.
  • Understanding of group dynamics and their application to rehabilitation services.
  • Ability to plan individualized programs of instruction and communicate effectively.
  • Experience in teaching and counseling individuals with mental health challenges and disabilities.
  • Knowledge of computer-based medical records and ability to retrieve/print documents.
  • Ability to observe and document patient behaviors accurately.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain inventory of supplies needed for activities/services.
  • Ability to motivate patient participation and establish a relaxed atmosphere.

Skills

  • Effective communication and teaching methods in rehabilitative psychoeducational and psychosocial areas.
  • Validation, creativity, consistency, enthusiasm, and different roles in relating to patients.

Pay

$4,594.16 - $5,921.25 monthly
