Rehab Technician

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a rehab tech to support our rehab team at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center East Bank Hospital in Minneapolis. The rehabilitation technician assists therapists in providing safe, efficient, and effective delivery of patient care by preparing patients for therapy sessions, assisting with patient transfers, managing rehab equipment, ordering supplies, and performing clerical tasks as directed.

Fairview Rehabilitation offers a range of services across 10 acute-care hospitals, 3 post-acute settings, and 70 outpatient adult and pediatric therapy clinics. Our therapists collaborate across disciplines—Physical, Occupational, Speech Therapy, Audiology, and Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab—and participate in specialty programs within an academic health system focused on evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the therapist, assesses patients’ needs and identifies their ability to participate in treatment each day.
• Implements assistance with plan of care as directed by the therapist.
• Communicates with the therapist regarding recommendations or needs for revision/update of plan of care as determined by physicians or nursing staff.
• Coordinates care and communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes.
• Under direct supervision of the therapist, provides treatment interventions based on the patient’s plan of care.
• Assists with treatment interventions, including patient transfers, monitoring, and exercise supervision as directed by the therapist.
• Identifies patient’s/family’s educational needs and communicates them to the therapist.
• Assists therapist with treatment equipment for patient care.
• Prepares, maintains, and cleans department/treatment areas in compliance with infection control, safety regulations, and established guidelines.
• Completes cleaning per schedule, stocks supplies, and performs maintenance, temperature, and safety checklist tasks.
• Safely transports, transfers, and/or escorts patients following proper procedures to ensure safety of patient and self.
• Uses appropriate and safe body mechanics during patient transfers and transport.
• Demonstrates awareness of and complies with departmental standards for productivity, charges, attendance, and time management/prioritization.
• Participates in department/facility process and quality improvement initiatives.
• Completes scheduling functions as assigned, including producing efficient and accurate schedules, updating changes, and communicating them to staff.
• Actively participates in department problem-solving, coordinating patient schedules for multiple disciplines, and resolving time conflicts.

Requirements

• Completion of 2 years toward a Bachelor’s Degree in a health/exercise-related field.
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).

Preferred Qualifications

• B.S./B.A. in a health/exercise-related field.
• Healthcare experience with direct patient care.

Schedule

Full-time position (1.0 FTE), authorized for 80 hours per pay period. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
