Rehab Fellow
About the role
The residency/fellowship position in rehabilitation services at Duke University Hospital is designed to provide advanced training and experience in the field of rehabilitation. The resident/fellow will work closely with experienced professionals to develop skills in patient care, research, and education.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate and articulate sound clinical reasoning in synthesizing complex evaluation data, identifying diagnoses, and developing comprehensive care plans.
Develop and update appropriate plans of care in collaboration with the patient and family, with measurable long and short-term goals and a defined discharge plan.
Perform age-appropriate competency skills in the area of practice and with respect to individual patient problems.
Follow intervention protocols and alter plans of care as needed.
Discharge patients when goals have been met or medical necessity no longer warrants intervention.
Establish provisions for continuing services or follow-up as needed.
Consistently meet patient care productivity standards as established for the job classification.
Work cooperatively with supervisors and peers to contribute to the overall productivity of the team.
Utilize support personnel (aides, senior aides, assistants) as appropriate and available.
Actively support and participate in patient coverage efforts across all divisions within the department as necessary.
Assess the learning needs and capabilities of patients and caregivers, initiate education in a timely manner, and utilize appropriate methods and materials for effective learning.
Maintain timely, legible, and efficient patient care documentation that is concise, pertinent, and meets the profession's and department's standards.
Provide clear, concise, relevant, and timely oral reporting.
Perform all required data collection for the department accurately and within the expected time frame.
Contribute to peer review activities.
Participate in outreach and learning activities, which may include in-services on related topics, generating referrals, and interacting with volunteers or visitors.
Participate in data collection for research activities to enhance clinical outcomes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or certification in physical or occupational therapy, with Master's or Clinical Doctorate in physical or occupational therapy preferred.
None beyond required education, although more experience may be preferred at times.
Current PT/OT license or eligibility to practice in NC.
Must have NC license before start of residency.
Some programs may require certifications or licenses for specific specialty areas.
