Regulatory Specialist (GIS)
About the Role
Stantec is seeking a Regulatory Specialist with GIS capabilities to provide technical support on renewable energy projects within our Environmental Services team. This role involves working with a team that addresses permitting and approval requirements, leveraging established relationships with public agencies and scientific expertise to secure project approvals effectively.
Responsibilities
- Access various online databases containing environmental information and create GIS graphics displaying the information.
- Complete desktop reviews of environmental data to determine environmental constraints.
- Draft summary memoranda detailing the results of desktop reviews.
- Develop submittals for agency-required reviews and permitting tasks.
- Prepare submittals related to local land use permitting.
- Coordinate permitting for railroad and utility crossings.
- Attend public meetings to interact with public officials and local residents in support of projects.
- Communicate and collaborate with the project team to provide task updates and ensure consistency in project execution.
- Support and ensure implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Policies.
GIS Capabilities
- Create maps and perform geospatial analyses in support of environmental field studies and permitting.
- Adhere to established cartographic standards and quality assurance/quality control processes.
- Manage a wide variety of project-specific and reference geospatial data.
- Support geospatial field data collection efforts, including wetlands, waterways, and rare, threatened, or endangered species habitats.
- Collaborate with existing GIS staff members across Stantec offices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field with demonstrated GIS training or coursework.
- 0-3 years of experience.
- Previous experience in environmental permitting and/or providing GIS services in support of environmental projects is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent technical writing, organizational, and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently, and take initiative.
- Ability to learn and adapt to multiple tasks and processes quickly in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and clients.

Pay
Locations in MN, OH, VT, and various areas in CA, ME, NY, VA: $49,100.00 - $68,700.00 annually.
