About the role

The Regulatory and Special Investigations (RSI) Agent is the primary regulator and investigator for the Muckleshoot Tribe’s gaming properties. They ensure fair and honest gaming and compliance in all regulated activities conducted by the Tribe’s gaming operations on the reservation. RSI Agents operate under the authority of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, the Tribal/State Compact, and the Muckleshoot Gaming Ordinance.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and observe gambling and related activities at all gaming operations to ensure compliance with local, state, federal law, applicable controls, and the terms of the Tribal-State Compact.
• Conduct or assist with both conduct and regulatory investigations of gaming patrons and licensees.
• Interview subjects, witnesses, complainants, and licensees to complete investigations, complaints, or other unusual occurrences on the gaming properties.
• Complete thorough and detailed reports on required incidents.
• Assist with presenting evidence and testimony regarding licensee or gaming operations violations in tribal, state, and federal courtrooms as required.
• Respond to all gaming and non-gaming criminal activity on the gaming properties to observe, investigate, report, and, if necessary, detain subjects for law enforcement. Physical takedowns or hands-on engagement with armed or combative patrons may be required.
• Resolve patron complaints, grievances, or other incidents involving gaming-related integrity matters.
• Prepare and submit online reports to the Auburn Police Department to aid in criminal prosecution.
• Issue notices, citations, and other regulatory enforcement forms to gaming operations, licensees, and patrons as documentation of violations.
• Serve as a point of contact for the general public, gaming agencies, law enforcement, and the gaming industry concerning criminal, gaming, and operational integrity matters.
• Attend required training and stay current on internal policies, interview techniques, defensive tactics, first aid, and gaming operation rules and laws.
• Conduct audits to verify regulatory compliance or identify potentially fraudulent activities.
• Perform a wide range of office and field duties as needed due to the Tribe’s commitment to community service and member well-being.

Requirements

• One or more of the following:
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or vocational school in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a closely related field, plus one (1) year of experience working in law enforcement.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus two (2) years’ experience in law enforcement.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, plus five (5) years of investigations experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, PCI or CFE certification, plus one (1) year of experience in corporate investigations.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license at the time of appointment or as set by the Tribe.
• Graduation from the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy / Basic Law Enforcement Reserve Academy or equivalent at the time of appointment. A Professional Certified Investigator Certificate or Fraud Examiner Certification may substitute if the law enforcement requirement is not met.
• Ability to pass a background investigation, meet criteria for a gaming license, and pass a pre-employment drug test.

Schedule

This position follows a full-time 40-hour workweek structured as four 10-hour shifts. Work schedules are assigned through a seniority-based bid process and may include Day, Swing, or Grave shifts. As part of a 24/7/365 regulatory operation, agents must be available to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts to ensure continuous coverage of all gaming properties.

Working Conditions

• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing.
• Occasional use of hands to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms.
• Portions of the job are performed in a smoke-filled environment.
• Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.
• May be required to initiate or assist with physical takedowns or apprehensions of suspects.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Occasional work in outside weather conditions, exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, or airborne particles.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.
