Job Overview

The successful candidate will demonstrate chemical expertise and experience gained either internally within Komatsu or externally. Essential qualifications include product knowledge, strong communication skills, a desire to be a team player, and a positive attitude towards problem-solving.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manages the overall Chemical Management System (KCMS) in North America, collaborating closely with the Global Procurement function to protect Komatsu’s market access. Integrates into the Regulations and IP group to execute tasks unrelated to chemical-related tasks, focusing on cost reduction, cost avoidance, and efficiency.
  • Supports cross-functional teams such as Procurement, Sales and Marketing, and KNA/KMT Legal Counsel. Works closely with US-based Strategic Sourcing and Engineering/Technical Functions in North America while collaborating globally with Komatsu experts. Develops and conducts training initiatives for internal and external audiences on chemical compliance regulations.
  • Develops and executes communications between US-based teams, KLTD Regulations in Japan, the European Union, and global distributors in Australia (KAL). Provides chemical data for parts, components, and products to respective practitioners in regions.
  • Researches North American governmental websites and reports new regulations or updates to existing regulations to KLTD Development Division and NATCs. Researches global regulations concerning NATC original design products.
  • Participates in trade groups such as the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. Communicates issues affecting product compliance to Regulations & Compliance Group management.
  • Responds to questions from Komatsu Product Managers, KNA/KMT Marketing, Field Sales, and Service staff regarding chemical regulations, providing accurate analysis and interpretation.
  • In the event of out-of-compliance issues, supports the development of short-term resolutions with Regulations & Compliance Group management and related KNA/KMT and Komatsu Ltd. staff. Supports responsible North America Technical Centers or Komatsu Ltd. to resolve the issue with a permanent countermeasure.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related Engineering degree plus 3-5 years working experience is strongly desired. Long work history (>15 years) with the required skills could be considered.
  • A strong understanding of global chemical regulations and an aptitude for learning new processes, developing new tools, and skills.
  • Working knowledge of regulations and standards such as Title 40 Chapter I Environmental Protection Agency, Title 29 Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Title 30 Mine Safety and Health Act (MSHA), Canada CEPA, state and major municipal ordinances, and EU regulations such as REACH, RoHS, WEEE, ECHA, EU Waste Framework Directive.
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and presentation skills. Result-oriented, independent individual with a working knowledge of project management.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including international travel (up to 15%).

Hiring Range: At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $NA. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
