About the role
The Wellness Letter is a monthly consumer health newsletter that translates evidence on nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and everyday health practices into clear, practical guidance for adults. We are looking for experienced health journalists to contribute regularly.
Responsibilities
- Write feature articles, typically 1,000–1,200 words (longer on occasion).
- Create shorter service-oriented features.
- Publish WELLNESS NEWS briefs, focusing on a single new study or guideline.
- Contribute Ask the Expert pieces, answering questions through research-based reporting and expert input (generally 600–800 words).
Requirements
- Significant experience covering consumer health or medical topics.
- Comfortable reading and interpreting full peer-reviewed journal articles.
- Understanding of the difference between observational findings and causal conclusions.
- Ability to evaluate study design, sample size, limitations, and generalizability.
- Writing clearly for a non-professional audience without oversimplifying.
- Delivering clean, well-organized drafts.
What We're Looking For
- Experience serving an educated, older audience.
- Understanding of the importance of calibrated, evidence-based health reporting.
Compensation
- Per article and based on length and complexity.
- Shorter pieces: $300–$400
- Ask the Experts: approximately $350–$400
- Reasearched features: $600–$800
- Regular assignments for ongoing monthly contributions.
