Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in a non-acute environment. Provides care in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. Utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data, plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team.
• Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care, ensuring goals are realistic and measurable.
• Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to plan and revise care based on changing patient needs.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Delegates appropriately and provides supervision for licensed nurses and other personnel.
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching; revises the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and adherence to policy.
• Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Acts as a preceptor or mentor to support the growth of others.
• Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
• May supervise staff and workflow of the department.
• Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
• Demonstrates core and leader behaviors to provide an excellent service experience.

Requirements

• Valid current or temporary Alaska RN license.
• Associate’s degree in nursing (knowledge and skills normally demonstrated by this degree).
• BLS certification required.
• May require ACLS, PALS, or additional certification and/or continuing education based on area of practice.
• Creative thinking, prioritizing, and flexible problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Professional certification.

Schedule

Full Time / Monday-Friday. This is a short-term assignment covering the Urology Clinic.
