Schedule
- Friday, Holidays (every other holiday), Thursday, Weekends (every other weekend)
- Scheduled Hours: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (24 hours per week)
- Shift: Evening (8 hours)
- Rotation: Week 1 – Thursday, Friday, Saturday; Week 2 – Sunday, Thursday, Friday

Responsibilities
- Accurately obtains and enters demographic, insurance, and other related patient information into the computer-based patient registration/scheduling system.
- Ensures all patient and/or witness signatures are collected on appropriate paperwork (e.g., HIPAA, Consent to Treat).
- Obtains and verifies patient insurance coverage; follows insurer guidelines to secure pre-authorization, pre-certification, and physician referrals prior to patient visits.
- Follows up to correct discrepancies as required.
- Obtains and verifies workers’ compensation and automobile coverage when required.
- Schedules and/or arrives Radiology, Lab, and basic ancillary service appointments.
- Completes Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery demographic and insurance collection.
- Coordinates the provision of multiple services to patients.
- Collects patient liabilities (deductibles, copays, coinsurances, self-pay payments, cosmetic procedure payments, and balances) prior to or on the date of service.
- Performs Surgical Day admissions, bed control, transfers, discharges, and admissions tasks.
- Provides patients with standard information regarding preparation for scheduled procedures and services.
- Assesses patients’ financial needs and directs them to financial counseling or refers to appropriate personnel/areas.
- Performs related clerical duties (retrieving records, faxing, collating, typing, transcribing, relaying messages, mailing packets, etc.).
- Maintains accurate and timely records, logs, files, and related information.
- Completes online death certificate registry.
- Receives and secures patient valuables.
- Monitors and maintains Patient Access and Revenue Cycle Work queues to ensure accurate and timely billing.
- Complies with departmental policies, procedures, and objectives; attends meetings, conferences, seminars, and training as required.
- Demonstrates use of Lean Methodology and Quality Improvement in daily operations.
- Complies with health and safety regulations, including PPE use as required by policy.
- Respects diverse views and approaches; demonstrates Standards of Respect in interactions with employees, patients, and visitors.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (required).
- Associate Degree or certificate in a healthcare-related field (preferred).
- Proficient data-entry skills with attention to detail.
- Computer skills, including Windows navigation and basic software use.
- Strong customer service skills (verbal and written) for internal and external customers.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, team-oriented environment.
- English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- 1-2 years of data entry and/or customer service experience (preferred).
- Experience in hospital admissions, insurance, billing, scheduling, or telephone customer service (preferred).
- Previous insurance verification experience (preferred).
- Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing skills (preferred).
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology (preferred).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements unless certification is mandatory.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work is considered moderate and primarily indoors in hospital outpatient and Emergency Department settings.
- Requires holiday and/or weekend shift work, as well as after-hours coverage.
- Cross-trained role with weekend and holiday rotation.
