About the role
The San Francisco SPCA is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Community Medicine team. We provide high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and preventive care to animals across San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Anesthesia and surgical excellence: Safely induce, intubate, and monitor patients through all stages of anesthesia — often managing multiple cases simultaneously — while recognizing and responding to changes quickly and effectively.
- Champion surgical prep and recovery: Prepare patients aseptically, assist in surgery, maintain sterile fields, and ensure smooth, safe recoveries.
- Deliver high-quality nursing care: Place IV catheters, calculate and administer drugs and fluids, and manage patient records accurately.
- Provide client care and education: Check in clients, discuss preventive service options, deliver clear discharge instructions, and offer compassionate client education to empower pet owners in caring for their animals.
- Innovate and improve workflows: Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen communication, and elevate the client and patient experience across our clinics.
- Collaborate and grow: Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and volunteers to foster trust, efficiency, and shared learning — with mentorship and continuing education opportunities to advance through the RVT levels.
