About the role

The Senior Registered Respiratory Therapist (Sr RRT) assists the Supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the Respiratory Care Department and performs advanced respiratory care procedures for patients with various cardiopulmonary disorders. Duties include performing routine respiratory therapy procedures, coordinating specialty area operations, conducting assessments, and educating patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine respiratory therapy procedures including IPPB, O2 therapy, humidity/aerosol therapy, pulmonary function lab, neonatal intensive care, HBO
• Counsels and educates patients and families on respiratory care procedures
• Assists in the performance of invasive procedures such as tracheal intubations and bronchoscopy
• Monitors and maintains ventilation and airway care for assigned patients
• Conducts inspiratory force measurements and vital capacity tests, performs arterial blood gas punctures and analysis
• May perform bedside pulmonary function tests and in-lab tests with appropriate training
• Provides patient assessment and reassessment through observation and clinical data gathering
• Participates in departmental and hospital continuous improvement opportunities

Requirements

• Required: Associates Degree in Respiratory Care, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Required: Technical Degree or Diploma in Respiratory Care, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Required: 1-3 years of experience in ICU, NICU, or CVU environments
• Required: 1-3 years of experience in a specialty area such as hyperbaric medicine, pulmonary functions, etc.
• Required: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification
• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Preferred: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from the American Heart Association
• Preferred: Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care
• Preferred: Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care
• Preferred: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care
• Preferred: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the Mississippi State Department of Health
• Preferred: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the Arkansas State Medical Board
• Preferred: Certified Asthma Educator certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care
• Preferred: Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care
• Must have completed competency and skill in advanced airway management
• Must have good balance and coordination
• Must have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision
• Must have frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact
• Must have exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials
• Must be able to react quickly to emergency situations
