About the Role

Utilizes patient assessment skills, protocols, and chart reviews to determine therapy efficacy and makes appropriate recommendations. Assists physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures, including equipment setup and maintenance. Documents and charges for procedures accurately and thoroughly to meet quality standards. Provides effective patient education on therapy modalities to ensure understanding of care benefits. Demonstrates knowledge of infection control, safe body mechanics, and applicable regulations and standards. Proactively initiates process improvement ideas and assists with clinical instruction and staff precepting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs respiratory therapies and oxygen delivery therapies, making recommendations for the most efficient delivery method per protocol.
  • Initiates, maintains, transports, and monitors mechanical ventilators, including conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation.
  • Performs airway maintenance tasks such as manual resuscitators, airway insertion, suctioning, extubation, and tracheostomy procedures.
  • Responds immediately to Code Blue emergencies, providing CPR according to the American Heart Association guidelines.
  • Obtains, analyzes, and reports arterial blood gases and co-oximetry findings, performing quality controls as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Advanced Tracheostomy Care including tracheotomy change & de-cannulation
  • Non-Invasive Bilevel Application & Management
  • Invasive and Non-Invasive End Tidal Co2 Capnography Application & Monitoring
  • Advanced Tracheostomy Care/Change out/de-cannulations
  • Bronchoscopy Assist
  • Advanced Conventional & Non-Conventional Ventilator Management
  • Utilize and adapt to State of the Art Technology, Computer Systems and Applications
  • Effective Oral and Written Communication
  • Esophageal balloon manometry
  • Ventilator waveform interpretation skills
  • Application of inhaled Nitric Oxide gas and pulmonary vasodilator medications
  • Pediatric and Neonatal critical care experience and skills

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science (Required)
  • Work Experience: 1+ years clinical experience in acute care setting (Required)

Licenses & Certifications

  • State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (Required)
  • Active credentialed NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (Preferred)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) (Required)
