About the role

The Respiratory Therapist II provides critical care for pediatric patients during transportation, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams from sending and receiving facilities. Under medical supervision, delivers individualized, goal-directed patient care using nursing principles, ensuring safety and effective outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership to nursing staff
• Plans and implements medical management
• Ensures safe transport of neonates, infants, and children
• Performs advanced neonatal skills such as intubation, ventilation, UAC/UVC insertion, and chest needle aspirations
• Maintains certifications, licenses, and ongoing education
• Participates in outreach and quality data collection
• Communicates frequently with patients, families, healthcare team members, EMS, and aviation personnel
• Works under high stress, sometimes adverse conditions, requiring physical effort and the use of mechanical devices

Requirements

• Must meet physical and mental demands, including lifting, standing, bending, fine motor skills, and working rotating shifts, with the ability to handle stressful situations effectively

Qualifications

• Licensure as a respiratory therapist with at least 5 years of pediatric critical care experience
• Certifications like BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, plus completion of advanced trauma courses
