Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a Registered Pharmacy Technician is a valuable member of our team who, under the direct personal supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, assists in compounding, preparing, labeling, and/or dispensing of drugs used to fill valid prescriptions or medication orders or in compounding, preparing, and labeling in anticipation of a valid prescription or medication order for a patient to be served by the facility, where such tasks require no professional judgement.
Duties
- Batch-manufacture parenteral solutions using aseptic technique.
- Prepare sterile products, both hazardous and non-hazardous, for dispensing to patients of the facility.
- Absorb in compounding oral dosage forms for patients.
- Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist:
- Deliver medication to patient care areas.
- Restock the dispensing areas of the Pharmacy; restock automated dispensing cabinets, including controlled drugs.
- Receive drug shipments into inventory, maintain appropriate levels of inventory in the work area and check for outdates.
- Complete patient care unit inspections.
- Repackage medications from bulk storage to individual unit-dose packages.
- Absorb in labeling of medication in preparation for dispensing.
- Answer phone calls and route to the appropriate individual.
- Absorb in assisting at the dispensing window.
- Process invoices; file inventory paperwork.
Qualifications
- A current valid NY State Registered Pharmacy Technician license and registration.
- A current valid Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health career Association (NHA) Pharmacy Technician certification.
- One more than two years of hospital Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
- An associate's degree or higher.
- Experience in sterile compounding preferred.
