Registered Oncology Nurse

About the role

The Registered Oncology Nurse at The Cancer & Hematology Centers plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive, compassionate care to cancer patients and their families. This position involves assessing and monitoring patients' needs, developing personalized care plans, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care.

Responsibilities

• Affirms and monitors the overall needs of patients and significant others.
• Develops and maintains an individualized plan of care with the patient and significant others.
• Initiates follow-up care in the community and home.
• Administers chemotherapy according to ONS and OSHA guidelines.
• Provides research-based nursing care in collaboration with physicians, research team, and community/national standards.
• Evaluates patients and significant others' needs for education and develops and implements appropriate teaching strategies.
• Documents nursing care and teaching consistently with documentation guidelines.
• Maintains communication with other health team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Acts as a patient/significant others advocate.
• Assumes a leadership role and delegates appropriately to support staff to facilitate safe, efficient, and quality patient care.
• Documents patient chargeable services and items used.
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in oncology by reading, attending conferences, seminars, etc.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN in the State of Michigan.
• Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program and chemotherapy certificate.
• ONS Chemo & Biotherapy Provider Card.
• CPR certification or acquisition within 90 days of employment.
• Minimum of 1-year medical/surgical experience, preferably in oncology.
