Registered Nurse Vascular Access Team

About the role
This RN position requires 12 months of previous RN work experience. It is 36 hours a week, full-time, rotating Days/Eves/Nights. Mostly 12-hour shifts, with one week in the schedule consisting of 3 eight-hour shifts and 1 twelve-hour shift, every third weekend. This team prefers RNs with previous ED, VAS, or ICU experience.
The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with, and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care through RN leadership within the framework of family-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care.
- Gathers and synthesizes assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care, shares pertinent data with the care team, and delegates tasks.
- Recognizes clinical changes indicative of patient deterioration and utilizes the CAT team when appropriate.
- Collaborates with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care.
- Develops, implements, and revises the patient’s plan of care on admission and throughout hospitalization, focusing on outcomes and including goals and required interventions in partnership with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary care team.
- Coordinates care across the continuum, utilizing case management resources.
- Follows evidence-based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to eliminate preventable harm and promote excellent patient outcomes.
- Recognizes and addresses ethical dilemmas and moral distress, seeking resources as needed.
- Demonstrates competence in teaching patients/families, progressing to expert-level education.
- Evaluates and documents care provided on each assigned shift.
- Adopts and implements clinical practice changes rapidly into own practice.
- Documents the evaluation of nursing interventions and outcomes using hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
- Follows safe hand-off practices as defined in patient care standards and procedures.
- Utilizes and exemplifies safety behaviors for error prevention, including entering safety nets for good catch/near-miss situations.
- Uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques and good listening skills to empathically communicate with patients, families, and colleagues.

Requirements
- At least one (1) year of RN experience (Required).
- Prior experience in pediatrics or area of specialty (Preferred).
Qualifications
- Technical Diploma in Nursing (Required).
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred).

- Computer Competency:
- Basic use of a computer (mouse, keyboard, printer, USB ports).
- Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word, spreadsheets, presentations, and Skype).
- Web browsing, intranet search, document access.
- Use of shared network file space.
- Basic use of patient-facing technology (e.g., IV pumps, point-of-care devices, CR monitors).

Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board (upon hire – Required) or
- Nursing Temporary Practice Permit (Pennsylvania) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board (upon hire – Required) or
- Registered Nurse (New Jersey) – New Jersey State Licensing Board (upon hire – Required) or
- Nursing Temporary Practice Permit (New Jersey) – New Jersey State Licensing Board (upon hire – Required)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – issued through an organization that requires hands-on instructor-led psychomotor skills verification (e.g., American Heart Association or Red Cross) (upon hire – Required).
Pay
Salary range: $48.30 - $58.15 per hour. Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs; part-time pay will be adjusted accordingly.
