REGISTERED NURSE V (PUBLIC HEALTH) DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND REHABILITATION - OAHU

Duties Summary

This position serves as a working supervisor responsible for coordinating the daily management and supervision of the Public Health Nursing Office (PHNO), including the planning and provision of infection prevention and control protocols, operating immunization clinics, providing educational programs for department staff. As well as identifying evidence-based improvements for the administration of clinical services through a coordinated auditing process of all DCR facilities including Mainland Branch contracted facilities. They are responsible for coordinating and implementing chronic disease screening/testing and treatment, managing and implementing Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act, hereafter referred to as the 340B program as long as it is federally supported.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

• Legal Authorization To Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
• Licenses: Applicants must possess a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Hawaii at the time of application.
• Experience: Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of Public Health nursing experience as a registered nurse. At least one (1) year of the required experience MUST HAVE been comparable to the Public Health Nurse IV level.
• CPR Certification: Incumbents must be prepared at all times to immediately provide emergency medical services when needed, including Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Therefore, you must possess a current CPR certification at the time of application.
• Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "...an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who: Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment. • Other: Certified Correctional Health Professional within 6 months of employment. Infection control nurse certification within 6 months of employment by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology. Association for Practitioners in Infection Control (APIC) training course or equivalent desired. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred.
