REGISTERED NURSE: University Hospital (8D-Progressive Critical Care Unit)
About the Unit
8D is a 20-bed Progressive Critical Care unit providing care for critical and moderate care medical-surgical patients, as well as those transitioning from ICU to general care and rehabilitation floors. The patient population includes acute and chronic ventilated patients and those with difficulties weaning from ventilator support. The unit serves a broad variety of medical diagnoses and collaborates with many different medical teams within the institution.
The philosophy of care is to deliver expert, conscientious, evidence-based, holistic patient-centered care and to identify, evaluate, and implement that care in the Intermediate Care environment.
The nursing team consists of highly motivated and skilled nurses and technical support staff with diverse experience and a wide array of medical knowledge. The team takes pride in caring for patients using an interdisciplinary approach and the holistic nursing process to inspire recovery.
Responsibilities
- Provide highly skilled nursing care for acute and chronic ventilated patients.
- Care for patients with difficulties weaning from ventilator support.
- Deliver expert, evidence-based, holistic patient-centered care in a Progressive Critical Care setting.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support patient recovery.
Requirements
- Current Michigan RN license (GN's may be considered).
- Resume required for all applicants.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Current Michigan RN license.
- Desired:
- BSN preferred.
- Six (6) months to one (1) year of Acute Care RN experience preferred.
- ICU RN experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflicts, as demonstrated by current employment experience.
- One (1) year of charge nurse experience.
- One (1) year of current ventilator experience.

Pay
- Hourly range for Registered Nurses: $41.78 - $64.81/hour.
- Shift differentials:
- Evening Shift: +$3.00/hour
- Night Shift: +$4.00/hour
- Day Shift Weekend: +$2.90/hour
- Evening Shift Weekend: +$5.90/hour
- Night Shift Weekend: +$6.90/hour
- Charge Nurse: +$1.00/hour
This position is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. Actual level and salary will be determined at the time of hire, with levels ranging from A to F.

Schedule
- Hours: 36 hours per week.
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts.
- Location: 8D Progressive Critical Care Unit.
All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union.
