REGISTERED NURSE- 6B1 Acute Care Medicine Unit in the University Hospital
About the Role
6B is a 32-bed unit that provides care primarily to four Internal Medicine Services. We perform in-depth treatment for patients with multiple chronic illnesses including Diabetes, Hypertension, and Lupus. 6B is a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding medical unit for new graduate nurses as well as experienced nurses. The staff participates in self-scheduling, developing in-services, and professional practice committees.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients on a 32-bed Internal Medicine unit.
- Deliver in-depth treatment for patients with multiple chronic illnesses such as Diabetes, Hypertension, and Lupus.
- Participate in self-scheduling, in-service development, and professional practice committees.
Requirements
- Current Michigan RN license for all candidates that have passed the NCLEX. Graduate Nurse (GN) applicants will be considered for this position.
- The selected Graduate Nurse candidate will have 45 days from the date of hire to successfully pass the NCLEX for Michigan RN licensure.
- All required qualifications must be met prior to the start date of employment.
- Resume required for both internal and external applicants.
Qualifications
- Required: Current Michigan RN license or eligibility to obtain one within 45 days of hire (for GN applicants).
- Desired:
- BSN preferred.
- One (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Experience with Medical/Surgical patients.

Pay
- Hourly range for Registered Nurses: $41.78–$64.81/hour.
- Shift differentials:
- Evening Shift: +$3.00/hour
- Night Shift: +$4.00/hour
- Day Shift Weekend: +$2.90/hour
- Evening Shift Weekend: +$5.90/hour
- Night Shift Weekend: +$6.90/hour
- Charge Nurse: +$1.00/hour
Schedule
- Hours: 36 hours per week.
- Shift: Night shift; 8- and 12-hour shifts, every other weekend.
- Location: 6B1 Acute Care Medicine Unit in the University Hospital.
- Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union.
