Earn up to a $25,000 sign-on bonus as a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Telemetry Unit at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center in Cortland, NY. This full-time night shift position offers three 12-hour shifts per week in a supportive, low patient-ratio environment focused on cardiac, respiratory, wound, and acute care needs.

Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) is a mission-driven, community-focused hospital with a collaborative, provider-led Telemetry team. The unit (2S) specializes in cardiac, respiratory, wounds, and other acute care needs, staffed by RNs and LPNs. Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation using the nursing process.
- Direct and guide patient teaching and ancillary personnel activities while maintaining professional nursing standards.
- Perform patient assessments and document accurately and timely, including admission assessments, skin risk assessments, and pain assessments.
- Monitor patient vital signs, recognize changes in condition, and escalate concerns using the Chain of Command.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products safely, adhering to policies (e.g., e-Mar, barcoding, scanning).
- Assess and address patient and family educational needs, documenting and evaluating understanding post-teaching.
- Contribute to discharge planning, ensuring safe transitions with correct forms, instructions, and follow-up resources.
- Assist providers with procedures and treatments, using SBAR for communication and read-back for critical values/orders.
- Demonstrate competency in using equipment (e.g., IV pumps, patient lifts) and performing nursing treatments (e.g., Hourly Rounds, whiteboard communication).
- Participate in emergency preparedness (e.g., Code Blue, drills) and infection control protocols (e.g., PPE, hand hygiene, isolation procedures).
- Document patient care activities in real-time, adhering to hospital policies.
- Promote professional nursing through committee participation, continuing education, and quality improvement activities.
- Develop and update individualized patient care plans, ensuring interventions align with nursing diagnoses.
- Facilitate safe patient handoffs using SBAR and "Ticket to Ride" for interdisciplinary communication.
- Support clinical learning experiences (e.g., precepting, Nursing Grand Rounds).
Requirements
- Current NYS license as a registered professional nurse.
- Current BLS-CPR certification (or obtained within the first 30 days of employment).
- For specialty units (e.g., ICU, Maternity):
- Maternity: Neonatal Resuscitation Certification within 6 months.
- ICU: ACLS within 6 months of hire.
- At least 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred for specialty units.
