About the Role

The Emergency Department nurse provides professional nursing care during the initial phase of acute illness or trauma for patients of all ages. The ED nurse triages and determines priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs as well as factors influencing patient flow through the emergency care system. The ED nurse works quickly to assess the needs of each patient, prioritize care based on critical nature, stabilize the patient, initiate treatment, discharge the patient after the emergency is over, or make arrangements for a longer hospital stay.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care during the initial phase of acute illness or trauma for patients of all ages
  • Triage and determine priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs
  • Assess patient needs, prioritize care, stabilize patients, initiate treatment, and arrange for discharge or longer hospital stays

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program or NLN approved program (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
  • Previous nursing experience (Preferred)

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Active RN license in the state of Missouri (Required)
  • BLS must be obtained within 90 days (Required)
  • ACLS must be obtained within one year of hire (Required)
  • PALS must be obtained within one year of hire (Required)
  • ENPC must be obtained within 12 months of hire (Required for Primary RN for emergent pediatric care; RN will not be Primary RN if certification lapses)
  • TNCC must be obtained within 12 months of hire (Required to be Primary RN in trauma care; RN will not be Primary RN if certification lapses)

Pay

  • $1.00 certification pay
  • $1.00 BSN pay
  • Career ladder bonus eligible up to $5,000
