About the role

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. Under general supervision, you will provide professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and specialty regulations. You will demonstrate knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age-specific differences in the patient population, including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team ensures the assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. You will support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
• Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding their status and medical history.
• Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions.
• Review and report the results of health status assessments, physical examinations, laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments to the provider.
• Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional support.
• Provide psychosocial support to patients and families while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician, including medications and blood products using correct dosage, route, time, and technique.
• Ensure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained before administration of therapies.
• Facilitate dose modification by assessing patients, labs, consulting protocols or treatment plans, calculating doses, and consulting physicians regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
• Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
• Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
• Maintain a safe work environment by restocking supplies, following OSHA guidelines for handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous waste, and adhering to disinfection protocols.
• Maintain equipment according to quality control standards.
• Manage patient medication refill requests and record information in patient charts.
• Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
• Maintain efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
• Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals, and future appointments.
• Triage patient phone calls and document relevant information in patient charts.
• Facilitate communication between patients/families and the interdisciplinary team, coordinating services related to patient care.
• Assist patients in locating available community resources.
• Collaborate with clinical research and act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
• Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
• Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through ongoing education.

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

Transplant RN

Position Summary: Provides nursing care from initial patient contact through high-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell rescue to follow-up care post stem cell rescue.

• Manage symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to intense high-dose therapy, stem cell rescue, and rehabilitation in collaboration with the transplant physician and/or supervisor.
• Report data to company registries and appropriate bodies, such as International Autologous and Blood and Marrow Transplant Registries.
• Incorporate company Transplant Network recommendations into clinical practice as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience in the bone marrow or hematopoietic stem cell transplant setting.

Infusion RN

• Program portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provide instruction to patients and/or caregivers on pump use at home.
• Demonstrate knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use, maintenance, cleaning, and proper documentation of pump usage.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education.
• RN state license and current registration with the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Preferred: 1 year in Oncology.
• Preferred: BSN.
• Must maintain continuing education requirements.

Working Conditions

The work environment includes possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic.

• Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
