Registered Nurse - SCI Waymart

About the Role

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is seeking devoted and passionate Registered Nurses to provide daily nursing care for offenders and support safe and effective health operations within the institution. This role offers excellent managerial support and collaboration with experienced auxiliary staff.

Responsibilities

• Health Assessments: Conduct physical assessments, identify concerns, and make nursing diagnoses that guide proper care.
• Medication Support: Administer medications, monitor compliance, and observe how well treatments are working.
• Treatment Delivery: Provide ordered treatments, assist with examinations, and support daily living needs for assigned individuals.
• Record Keeping: Update electronic health records, review charts, and prepare documentation for transfers or releases.
• Education and Guidance: Teach health practices to staff and offenders and reinforce information that supports safe behavior.
• Operational Compliance: Maintain readiness for inspections and follow all required infection control and quality procedures.

Requirements

• Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania. Employees with a temporary practice permit must obtain licensure within one (1) year as defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
• Eligibility to apply if within 60 days of graduating from a State Board of Nursing-approved school of nursing. Proof of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license is required at the time of appointment.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

PA residency requirement is currently waived for this position.

Schedule

Full-time employment with three (3) work shifts covering the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year:

• 1st shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
• 2nd shift: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
• 3rd shift: 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM

Work hours to be determined. Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs. This position is not eligible for telework.

Pay

Starting annual salary of $89,802.00 (before taxes) for new employees of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
