Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in Surgery.
  • Performs plan-of-care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care.
  • Documents patient care and monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patients and/or families and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Acts as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Performs patient care in other nursing units as necessary.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • BCLS certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Patient populations served: Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.
  • Access to protected health information: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.
  • Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements.
  • Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
